“The energy assessment is a no brainer.”
Our goal is to integrate Neighbor to Neighbor into everyday public service and ensure the library is a great partner for this effort. East Hampton is predisposed to green issues, and the library has been promoting going green for a long time. Neighbor to Neighbor makes it easy for us to get the word out.
The energy assessment is a no brainer. Several members of our staff have had a Home Energy Solutions assessment and loved it.

“We’ve drastically reduced our fuel usage”
Thanks to a Home Energy Solutions visit, we’ve stopped our unwanted nightly symphony of clanging pipes. Insulating the pipes made a huge difference. We’ve also put in a solar thermal hot water system and can turn our boiler off from May to September, saving about 250 gallons of oil a year!
And by putting in a solar PV system we’ve significantly dropped our electric bills – and in some months we don’t even use electricity from the utility.

“Awareness and education will help us see energy improvements as an investment.”
Awareness and education will help change views on energy so that homeowners begin to see it as an investment, rather than just a cost of living. This will lead people to learn how spending upfront costs on energy improvements will pay back in time. People are willing to pay $20k for a car that will last 6 years, but they are still unwilling to pay $10k to cover improved heating costs that will last 20 years.

“Our energy bills have plummeted and we couldn’t be happier.”
My husband and I are committed to having the lightest environmental footprint possible. We hired a green architect, had a HES visit, and remodeled our home completely with a geo- thermal heating/cooling system. We replaced the envelope which included insulating the attic with environmentally friendly foam and covered the exterior of our home with thick insulation. While we made these dramatic changes to our home, we took small steps along the way to cut costs. Our energy bills have plummeted. We couldn’t be happier with the aesthetic and fiscal results.
