Insulation Payback in Just One Year

A resident of East Hampton and active member of the East Hampton School System, Clive Tucceri Connor believes improving a home’s energy efficiency is important.  “You help the environment and your pocketbook!”

Clive had already taken the initiative to improve the energy efficiency of her home, but she wanted to do more.  So in the spring of 2010 she decided to have a Home Energy Solutions (HES) assessment.  When her technicians showed up, she expected her 1970’s home to need new windows.  Instead they told her the storm windows she was using were just as effective as new windows would be.  Clive said, “I was impressed they didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need.”

Instead, Clive discovered that she was losing a lot of heat through the sills in her basement and in her attic.  A few weeks after her HES visit, she had contractors come to her home to upgrade her insulation.

“They promised me [the new insulation] would probably pay itself off in 3 years.  I think it paid itself off in 1! I saw a dramatic reduction.”

Clive raved about the benefits of her new insulation.  It cut her oil deliveries by a third, and the cost of oil that has made a huge difference in her oil bills.  She could immediately feel the difference just sitting in her home, noticing how much warmer it was than prior to the insulation upgrade.

During the Halloween snowstorm last fall and the week-long power outage that followed, her home’s temperature initially dropped from 68 to 52, but stayed at 52 degrees the remainder of the week despite the cold night temperatures and no source of heating.  She attributes that comfort to her great insulation.

Clive highly recommends the Home Energy Solutions program and having good insulation.  Take advantage of the great opportunities to help you save by signing up for an energy assessment today and taking advantage of the Connecticut rebates and 0% Interest Insulation Loan program.
